"The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japeth. These were the sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth."

Genesis 9:18-19

Shem, a son of Noah, was one of the three sons aboard the Ark. After the waters receded and the eight survivors left the ark with the command to fill the Earth, Shem became the father of the "Semites" and had five sons.

His descendants were the Hebrews - the lineage of Abraham, David, and Jesus. They also included the Chaldeans, Assyrians, Persians, and Syrians.
