Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Have you ever stopped to imagine what it would be like being the only man on earth? For us, the thought may be a bit unsettling, as we've experienced a variety of friendships over our lives, which gives us a basis for comparison. However, for Adam, being alone probably never crossed his mind, as from his incepted creation he had nothing to compare loneliness to.
Perhaps, outside of Jesus, Adam was given the greatest responsibility toward all mankind in that the decisions he would make would determine the environment all future generations would live in. Being the father of all mankind obviously carried enormous responsibilities. This thought can be paralleled today in that the decisions parents make in raising their kids will most often have a lasting effect that will be carried on to a number of generations that will follow.
From day six of the creation week, God entrusted Adam to be the steward of all His creation. It was Adam that was given the initial task of naming all the animals, managing the garden, and being the father of the human race. In God's own image Adam was created.
Adam made one mistake that would end up effecting the creation he was entrusted with. He chose to disobey God when he allowed Eve to pick the fruit and then chose to share in its eating which incepted the curse to all creation. Adam opened the door of sin and in walked death and decay and in that moment of small rebellion something large, beautiful, and free was shattered; God's perfect creation. To compound the crime, Adam attempted to avoid responsibility by blaming Eve and instead of confronting his disobedience, he chose to hide.
To the theistic-evolutionists of this world today, the Bibles description of Adam's sin incepting death had no influence on our lives for they promote that from the very beginning of creation, death produced man. Yet the Bible makes it very clear to us that this decision by Adam and Eve to disobey God is why we today live in a world full of death and suffering.
